Runescape Jagex Cup?

Umm..I haven’t played Runescape in a while. I find it very dated and old in a way that isn’t cool and hip like Betty White. But, I figure that if I am going to start an MMORPG news site, I had better cover all of the games, even if I do not play them. So, it seems that Jagex is currently holding its Jagex Cup for clans. I am not sure what all this consists of…is it some glorified Runescape fishing tournament? Is it PVP? I have no clue exactly what it consists of, but it seems the finals/winners will be in August. The prizes will range from Runescape gold to real life shirts/mousepads/etc.
Aion Server Merge Coming Up

If the history of other games counts for anything, the server merge coming up in Aion will probably give you some time to spend with your family. In the past, these sort of things rarely go smoothly. So, you may end up going some time without leveling or doing quests, but you may get to know your mom more? One good thing about the way NCSoft is handling the Aion server merge, they are giving unlimited character transfers for anyone through August 18th. So, take full advantage of that if you have some characters that you want to move around. You usually get charged for something like this, so enjoy it while you can.
World of Warcraft Going Free To Play?

Tom Chilton, the lead designer on World of Warcraft was asked by PC gamer about the possibility of WoW ever going free to play. Here are a couple of quotes he had concerning the topic:
“I can definitely imagine that being the case with World of Warcraft. If another game comes along and blows us away it may not make sense for us to have a subscription fee. Or even further down the line, when we have another MMO out.”
“We’re not spending a lot of time thinking about it. It’s not something that’s a reality for us in the near future.”
In other words, don’t expect it to happen anytime soon…unless a new game comes along and takes a big bite out of their player base or Blizzard puts out a second MMO. With Cataclysm coming out soon, and WoW still going strong, I don’t see this in the near future. I think the only reason PC Gamer was tempted to ask the question was because LOTRO and DDO went free to play recently. Don’t get me wrong..I would love to see it become free, I just have a hard time seeing them give something away that people are clearly willing to pay for.
